Pinnacle Four Trail in Asan: A South Korea Hike

If you’re lucky enough to go hiking in South Korea, check out the Pinnacle Four Trail in Asan. The location is easy to find using the Waze app by typing in ‘Pinnacle 4 Trailhead’. It’s a family and dog friendly moderate 3.7 km or 2.3 mile roundtrip hike. And the view at the top is worth it. You’ll look down on a gorgeous 360 degree views of the surrounding city, countryside, and the famous Han river.

“Hiking has long been a South Korean pastime, but it has become more like a national identity.”

The Washington Post

Keep in mind, it’s mostly uphill on the way to the top and takes approximately 45 minutes to get there. The roundtrip hike is generally 1.5 hours. If you’re an avid hiker and move quick, you could complete it in an hour.

The trails are safe and clearly marked. There are benches and signs along the entire route making it difficult to steer off path. On the rockier parts of the hike, they’ve installed rope railings to help pull you up.

There are three separate trail entrances that start at the bottom of the mountain and lead to the top. From the trail entrance I used (‘Pinnacle 4 Trailhead’ in the Waze app) there was plenty of street parking available.

Road to entrance

This is the side road (off of the main road) that you walk up to find the trail – walk about two minutes and you’ll see the trail entrance to your left.

Korean signs at entrance

You’ll see two signs to the left that are located right beside the entrance to the trail.

The trail is clearly marked the entire way making it hard to lose your way.

The 360 degree view of Asan at the top of the trailhead is plenty worth the effort going up.

Happy hiking!
